California legalizes home deliveries of marijuana

California endorsed a rule Wednesday that will allow home deliveries of marijuana across the state. This would apply even in communities that have banned the sale of weed. The push was largely supported by cannabis companies and consumers, though the pushback came from some law enforcers.

“The public spoke loud and clear in favor of statewide delivery,” cannabis bureau spokesman Alex Traverso said in a statement.

Josh Drayton of the California Cannabis Industry Association told AP that while some communities have embraced legal sales, others have banned them. This has created pot “deserts” with little easy access to, for some, medication. He thinks specifically about those who are not able to travel far for what they need.

“At this point, you cannot stop regulated delivery services from entering a banned area to deliver to a consumer legally,” he said. So although there is a good chance it will be contested, the ruling stands for now.
