This morning on Wine Wednesday Alicia and I are joined by Nancy Light from the Wine Institute to not only taste wine but to also talk about the growing movement towards sustainable wine production throughout the industry.

The Wine Institute has a collection of over 1,000 wineries and affiliated businesses who act as the only group representing the industry at the state, federal, and international level. They have been instrumental in the promotion of the Certified Sustainable Wine Alliance, an organization that has developed a certification program and labeling system that allows consumers to easily identify wines that are produced by wineries that have implemented sustainable winegrowing practices. Nancy brought along a couple of wines that have gone through the certification process, including a delicious and bright Arneis varietal from Ponte Winery and the delightfully dense J. Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon.

Nancy also filled us in on all the happenings around wineries in April for Down to Earth Month, which celebrates the wine community’s commitment to sustainability.

Listen below and visit DiscoverCaliforniaWines.com for more info on Down to Earth Month.

Wine Wednesday is presented by Alaska Airlines, where Wine Flies Free for Mileage Plan™ members.
