‘Hand in Hand’ hurricane relief telethon raises over $44 million

The Hand in Hand hurricane relief benefit Monday night was originally designed to help Texas residents affected by Hurricane Harvey and has since been expanded to include Florida residents affected by Hurricane Irma. An all-star lineup of celebrities helped raise funds during this live telecast that took place on multiple networks in cities including NYC, LA, and Nashville.

Stars like Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Oprah, Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Sofia Vergara were all hands on deck to raise funds. Even ex-couple Lyle Lovett and Julia Roberts were seen chit-chatting during their fund-raising efforts. (You may remember that they married briefly in the 90s. She famously called him “perfect” during a Barbara Walters Special in 1993.)

I truly love that these celebrities took the time to help. It’s really something wonderful that stars have always seemed to embrace helping other Americans.

What saddened me was the realization that $44 million is a fraction of the $400 billion worth of damage that these two storms has caused.

If you are so inclined to help, you can still do so at AmericanRedCross.org.
