Rag’n’Bone Man: “I deserve to be where I am”

One of the most exciting things about working in radio is seeing an artist have a break out year. No doubt 2017 has been that year for Rory Graham. Graham, aka Rag n Bone Man, is a soul singer from East Sussex, England who got his start in music as a hip hop MC at the age of 15. His song ‘Human’ is a small sample of his song writing and vocal skill set.

I got a chance to speak with Rory after his performance at Outside Lands. We discussed his personal discovery of his vocal talent, his perspective on his success, his anxiety of becoming a new father, and how he uses real life events for his song writing framework.

What I find most exciting about Rag n Bone Man is the depth of his natural vocal range. His latest record merely scratches the surface of his over all potential. Which means we have decades more of listening to him develop and refine his vocal and song writing talents. It’s like finding a gift that keeps on giving. Be sure to check out his latest record Human, available now.
