Inside Outside Lands: Dawes talks about music’s interesting place in politics

This is the fourth episode in our Inside Outside Lands series of interviews. We found performers that took the stage this year at Golden Gate Park that we think are worth checking out.

Back in 2011 during the Occupy Wall Street movement, Dawes were in New York and decided to play songs alongside Third Eye Blind and Jackson Browne in support of the movement.

Lead singer Taylor Goldsmith explained to Arthur Ballesteros that taking a stand on political issues like they did in five years ago will scare some fans away, who want to keep music and politics separate. Goldsmith points to Bob Dylan, who has been singing about political issues for decades, and said as an artist you have to figure out a way to inspire openness.
