Bytes, Bars, and Bands: The best secret bars in San Francisco

No Name and Doug are joined by Johnny and Brodie from the band Cathedrals and discuss the best secret bars in San Francisco. Now you know.

Marianne’s at The Cavalier

This semi-secret back room at the famously exclusive bar, The Cavalier, was originally for members only, designed to serve the tech industry’s most elite (we’re talking Sean Parker and friends). Themed after Rolling Stones’ muse and British fashion icon Marianne Faithfull, the boho-chic inspired bar is now open to everyone who knows where to look.

Holy Mountain at Hawker Fare

You probably know Hawker Fare for its Laotian and Thai street food menu. But what you might not know is that the Valencia restaurant also has an upstairs restaurant, The Holy Mountain. Here you’ll find a new menu of drinks inspired by Mardi Gras and Carnival (think Batidas, Hurricanes, and the like). It’s designed to look like “a Thai teen’s bedroom.

SRO at Oddjob

This bar-within-a-bar is pretty T-I-N-Y…hence the name, Standing Room Only. Enter from Washburn Alley Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, use the bookcase-door at the back of Oddjob. Inside, you can tell the bartender what you like and they’ll concoct a drink for you.

Hideout at Dalva

Hideout is a smaller, quiet craft-cocktail bar nestled inside the larger Dalva bar at 16th and Valencia, leaving us to believe the new rule is: the smaller the space, the fancier the cocktail.

The Ipswitch at Bourbon & Branch

The “godfather of modern American speakeasies” has five different bars hidden inside, but you probably don’t know this particular one. And even if you know it’s there, you have to know someone to get in. That’s because it’s actually the original speakeasy, and all the alcohol for the bar is stored there now.
