Gorillaz Gives Their First Live Interview Ever

Virtual members of the Gorillaz – “singer” 2-D (voiced by Nelson De Freitas) and “bassist” Murdoc Niccals (voiced by Phil Cornwell) – gave their first live interview to BBC Radio 1‘s host MistaJam. The voice actors give life to the Gorillaz characters, featured in music videos, hologram performances, and more. The two humorously bickered and interrupted each other during their half-hour interview.

First question MistaJam reads: “Did you ever think you would end up here [in the BBC Radio 1 studio]?” 2-D replies, “Um, we found out about it today.”

The interview promotes their upcoming fifth album Humanz, to be released on April 28th. Murdoc and 2-D discuss recording, touring, and collaborating with Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, Popcaan, Pusha T, Mavis Staples, D.R.A.M, Zebra Katz, and more.

Humanz is Gorillaz’s first album in seven years, following 2010’s The Fall. Frontman and former Blur vocalist Damon Albarn and the rest of the band will travel with visual illustrator Jamie Hewlett for a North American tour, which will include their appearance at Outside Lands Friday, August 11th.
