Celebrity Type Stuff: Pepsi Pulls “Tone-Deaf” Kendall Jenner Ad

Pepsi has officially pulled their Kendall Jenner commercial, which involves the model attending an ambiguous march and presenting a Pepsi to a police officer to a crowd of cheers.

Countless people on Twitter spoke up about their feelings on the matter, including a lot of celebrities.

Judd Apatow said he could never come up with something funnier than the Pepsi Ad. Bernice King, Martin Luther King’s daughter, said “If only Daddy would have known about the power of #Pepsi.”And the lists goes on and on.

The full commercial to me felt like an attempt to modernize and re-create the magic of Coca-Cola’s iconic “I’d like to buy the world a coke” commercial from the 70s, but it CLEARLY backfired and left Pepsi executives ashamed.

It’s been compared to a glossed-over version of the real-life moment when Ieshia Evans faced down armed police at a Black Lives Matter demonstration.Pepsi has officially commented and said “Pepsi was trying to project a global message of unity, peace and understanding. Clearly, we missed the mark. We did not intend to make light of any serious issue. We are pulling the content and halting any further rollout. We also apologize for putting Kendall Jenner in this position.”
