For many of us watching the Academy Awards this year, one question remained unanswered: where is Eva Mendes?!

Her partner and baby daddy Ryan Gosling received a Best Actor nomination for his work in La La Land, yet the 43-year-old actress was nowhere to be found.

Well…she’s coming clean about that night. Eva told Shape magazine that she’d rather stay home with her 2-year-old and 11-month-old. And she says Ryan typically likes to stay home, too.

Could it also be that she’s still losing the baby weight? That’s unlikely. She clearly looks amazing in her recent photoshoot with Shape.

Some speculated that her absence was a sign that there may be an problems in the relationship between the two movie stars. Based on all the amazing things Ryan has said about Eva publicly, I seriously doubt it.  He’s thanked her in the past for taking time off from her career to focus on their family.

My theory? I think she’s retiring from acting and doesn’t want to bring that energy her way. But considering she still has clothing endorsement to sell, red carpet publicity might not be the worst thing…
