The Black & White Ball is back, with a fresh take on a San Francisco classic. The SalmonAid Festival will celebrate wild salmon and steelhead with a free, family-friendly, music festival in Oakland's famed Jack London Square on May 31 and June 1, 2008.

The festival will feature educational booths, activities and foods highlighting the natural history of salmon, as well as the history, culture and traditions of salmon towns and the peoples connected through our west coast salmon heritage - from Morro Bay, California to Bellingham, Washington, and inland to Idaho and Nevada. The Insect Discovery Lab brings live exotic insects to classrooms, libraries, and birthday parties for hands-on exploration.

Insects include walking sticks, giant millipedes, grasshoppers, cockroaches, and other arthropods. The lab staff teaches the audience about each animal, where they come from, and how they survive. This information is tied into rain forest conservation.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom
On Friday, May 23, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom will debut its newest and hippest roller coaster in the SKY, Tony Hawk’s Big Spin, featuring four-passenger cars that rotate and spin freely along a twisted steel track designed to simulate the fast-paced tricks and maneuvers of pro skateboard legend Tony Hawk.  Standing 53 feet tall, the ride travels at speeds exceeding 35 mph along 1,351 feet of track. American Conservatory Theater invites you to meet the Tate's, now appearing on stage in Sam Shepard's dysfunctional family classic, "Curse of the Starving Class".  Excessively bizarre and a tad off kilter, the Tate family is finding the price-tag for the American Dream a little more than they bargained for.  Their struggle for security, freedom, and the family farm leads them down a surreal path from where they may not return.
