1) NAME: Scissors For Lefty WEBSITE: www.myspace.com/scissorsforlefty 2) ABOUT THE SONG: Simply put, Long Distant Love is an honest song. I usually write with a sarcastic twist, but not on this song. Sometimes it's difficult to love somebody from afar. Other times, it's the easiest thing, you'll ever do. 3) BIO Scissors For Lefty is a personality. 2 sets of brothers that skip alongside Dirty Glam, Indie Rock, & Pop music. They have strict standards that land somewhere in between "Pro" & "Garage". Endearing brothers/friends with a penchant for melody & mischief. They’re cuckoo to watch, they never skimp on passion, and audiences have a grand time. In brief, the band signed their first studio album, “Underhanded Romance”, to Rough Trade Records in the UK, and Eenie Meenie in the U.S. Since, they have played over 350 shows across the US, Canada, Mexico, UK, & Germany. Scissors For Lefty has toured with, or shared a stage with: Arctic Monkeys, Dirty Pretty Things, White Lies, Erasure, Smashing Pumpkins, Metric, Panic at The Disco, Blonde Redhead, The French Kicks, Locksley, The Matches, The Fiery Furnaces, Semi Precious Weapons, Kaiser Chiefs, Rykarda Parasol, The Pigeon Detectives, Paolo Nutini, Ben Kweller, Juliette & The Licks, Grandaddy, The Bravery, along with huge festivals like Reading, Leeds, Hurricane, Southside, BFD, CMJ, SXSW, Noise Pop, Hyperactive, and Indian Summer Festival. Who does Scissors For Lefty admire? Who has influenced them? Musically, the band formed with a shared love for melodic college radio format. Stage wise, folks like Prince, Kiss, Karen O, Outkast, Mitch Hedberg, Stuart Murdoch, Stephen Malkmus, Bjork, and of course, Ian Svenonius have inspired their live flame. Scissors For Lefty has always embraced sincere stage performance. In the press, Bryan’s voice and lyrical style has been compared to Joe Strummer, Jim Morrison, Jarvis Cocker, Julian Casablancas, even James Brown. When asked how he felt about those comparisons, he said, “Well, what can I say?? I sing in the key of J! ...I tried K and it lacked soul...so J it is!!!“ Fall 2008, Scissors For Lefty returned to their home in San Francisco, and began recording 15 new songs at Talking House Productions. To keep things fresh, they self released a 5 song EP in November 2008, titled “Consumption Junction”. A full-length album is expected very soon. Spread the word!!! 4) WHAT YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT SAN FRANCISCO We've played 400 shows in a very short time. Half of those shows were right here in the Bay Area. Big or small, so many venues have been good to us. Shoreline, The Fillmore, American Music Hall, The Warfield, The Independent, Bottom of the Hill, Red Devil Lounge, The Blank Club, The Uptown, San Jose Skate, Club Deluxe, Cafe DuNord....all GOLDEN in their own special way. As far as restaurants go, I'm a sucker for Amelia's Salvadorian in Redwood City. We love pupusas : ) Other than that, we usually live off of blocks of sharp cheddar, Gingerbrew, Kombucha, Fernet, Salami, and all microwaveables from Trader Joes. Lately, I've been dreaming about Sloppy Joes. 5) UPCOMING SHOWS & ALBUMS We have sooooo much new material coming out. All we need to do is mix it. Expect Scissors For Lefty 1-5 times a month around the Bay Area come Fall / Winter 2009.
