The Song: "Fade Me In"

There's actually a San Francisco-related line in this song--"The sun is in my eyes, and I'm looking out to sea." It's about walking along Ocean Beach near the ruins of the Sutro baths, one of my favorite places in the city. A publisher suggested changing this line to fit some of the movie imagery of the lyrics, but I liked that line the way it was and left it in.

Then recently a writer for the Village Voice heard the song on Pandora.com while editing her honeymoon pictures, and that line about looking out to sea came on just as she came to a photo of herself looking out to sea wearing sunglasses. She wrote a blog entry about "Fade Me In" and I happened to read it and got in touch. We were surprised to discover that she lives right next door to an old friend of mine, and she and her husband had the same first dance song at their wedding as my wife and I ("Time After Time," the Chet Baker version). If I had changed the Ocean Beach line, that whole series of coincidences wouldn't have happened...which tells me you have to follow your heart in songwriting.

Danny Scherr is a singer-songwriter from San Francisco. His 2007 solo debut cd, Richmond Special, has received commercial and non-commercial airplay on radio stations across the US and Europe. The song "Too Far Down" reached number 7 on KBAC in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the CD charted in the top 30 at the New Music Weekly online, also making several best of lists of dj's and online music sites.

Danny has been writing and performing since the 1980's, originally for NYC area band Chappaquiddick +5 which played CBGB's and opened for some well known punk acts of the day. During college Danny began playing solo shows, gigging around Ann Arbor and opening for Soul Asylum in Detroit.

Back in NYC in the 90's, Danny started power pop band the Sky Violets, while also playing guitar and singing backup for Zane Campbell, nephew of country music legend Ola Belle Reed.

After moving to San Francisco, Danny continued playing solo acoustic shows and wrote songs and recorded with Jon Wilkins of the Postmarks.

In 2004 Danny's song "Maybe You're Gone," as covered by former Maverick artist Binocular, appeared as main end credit song of "The Girl Next Door" starring Emile Hirsch, Elisha Cuthbert and Paul Dano.
