1) BAND NAME: Jesse Brewster. WEBSITE: http://www.myspace.com/jessebrewster 2) ABOUT THE SONG "My Great Escape" is an introspective look at how we present ourselves to the world vs. how true we are to ourselves, and the struggle between the two. The idea that no matter how you're perceived by the world, you can never run from who you really are. Some people think it's a love song about someone who is my "great escape", that's not how it's intended (but if it works for you, go with it!) 3) BIO Jesse Brewster had moved at least 10 times by middle school, but settled in Berkeley, Ca. The son of hippie parents (he is the namesake of Jesse Colin Young, "c'mon people now!") Jesse was exposed at early age to a variety of popular music from the Stones and Bob Marley to James Taylor and Willie Nelson, which you can hear in his eclectic style. He started on the guitar in elementary school and there was never any doubt he would make music his focus. Jesse toured as a guitarist and backing vocalist for years before striking out on his own in 2005 with the release of Confessional, a benefit record for Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) with which he and his family are afflicted. Since then he's never looked back, surrounding himself with some of the best players in the area and playing at many of the SF Bay Area's great venues, touring the west coast as well as other parts of the country (50+shows in 2008 alone). With a new record in the works and a European acoustic tour in the fall, the momentum is building for this rising singer/songwriter, and don't worry, you'll still see lots of him on guitar... 4) WHAT YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT THE BAY AREA Being a Bay Area musician is great. With the rich history of music coming out of the Bay Area, local musicians are carrying on a tradition that started back in the 60's. There is an expectation of rebellion and speaking your mind as a Bay Area artist that almost goes without saying. But in my experience the best response to being from here is when I travel elsewhere as a San Francisco Bay Area musician-it's almost always a plus, and people seem to be more open to checking you out. The one slight drawback is that there are so many artists trying to be heard here that the market gets a bit flooded, but it's mostly great stuff, so that keeps the bar high! I love the Slanted Door in the Ferry Building, I could mention a dozen other restaurants that I love in SF, but since I'm going there next week, my mouth is watering...everything on the menu is amazing! The Lush Lounge on Polk is another favorite for sure. I used to live around the corner, so it was an easy place to end up with a drink in my hand... 5) UPCOMING EVENTS New album due out in the fall!
