1965 - The Who’s “I Can’t Explain” was released in the UK, and later peaked at No. 8.
1972 - Led Zep manager Peter Grant turned down an invitation for “Led Zeppelin and his musicians” to perform in Cannes, France. Grant published the request in an issue of Record Retailer.
1973 - After a devastating earthquake in Bianca Jagger’s hometown of Managua, Nicaragua, The Rolling Stones announced they’d perform a benefit concert for the stricken area.
1977 - The Eagles got their third number one album with Hotel California
1992 - Dee Murray, bassist for Elton John, died of cancer in Nashville.
2001 - Though the band hails from Ireland, the Brit Awards committee announced that U2 would receive an Outstanding Contribution to Music award at their February 26th London ceremony.
