Weekends
Born on the cusp of the British Invasion, the youngest child in a family of music lovers, when the other kids in school were singing about the "Itsy Bitsy Spider," Steve was singing about "Boris the Spider." "Jumpin' Jack Flash" instead of "Frère Jacques." Songs from Abbey Road instead of, well, you get the idea...
Raised on Philadelphia radio (where he was listening to Dr. Don Rose before anybody in the Bay Area had ever heard of him), he learned to love everything from smooth Philly Soul to gritty Rock 'n' Roll.
The radio was always on, and it was fun. But making a living doing that? It was never a consideration. But while majoring in something sensible and marketable, he wandered into the college radio station one day. And a dream was born.
Steve spent the next few years moving from town to town, playing the hits, and repeatedly trying to explain his career choice to his parents.
Then responsibility called: It was time to settle down. There were jobs in sales and middle-management headaches. Bills were paid and the dream was set aside. But it never died.
Several years later, in need of a change, a chance meeting led Steve to an audition. And before he knew what happened, he was back on the air doing the only thing he ever really wanted to do all along - and on the station he'd always dreamed of working at. It's a true Foghead Cinderella Story!
Steve and his wife have lived a good portion of their adult lives way out in San Francisco's Richmond District, where their presence is tolerated and occasionally acknowledged by the two cats that adopted them. When not on the air, he's whipping up something tasty in the kitchen, exploring The City, driving a little too fast on some twisty mountain road or pontificating at a winery tasting room somewhere.
And the radio is still always on...
