Go Green with SF Travel!

Take off the leprechaun hat, finish up that Guinness and get in the green spirit with local gold – the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Dozens of natural gems are bundled together under the moniker from Marin’s Olema Valley and Stinson Beach to Alcatraz Island and Baker Beach. Hike the hills while letting Bay Treks feed you snacks, jokes and trail tips. With Best Bay Area Tours, wander secluded trails, artsy Sausalito galleries and Sonoma vineyards. Or lose the crowds and follow Tom's Scenic Trailwalking along lesser-known trails among the redwoods of Muir Woods. Because hiking among the greenery is the only place you'll find a real four-leaf clover. For more info about the natural beauty of our very own Bay Area, check out this insightful piece by Thouseman on

EARTH DAY 2012

CA State Parks Foundation: Earth Day 2012
The current perils facing California State Parks are numerous: 70 park closures in 2012, a $1.3 billion backlog in overdue maintenance projects, elimination of education programs for kids, reduced staffing and more. The California State Parks Foundation is working harder than ever to create programs and policy that will preserve parklands for future generations.

One such example of preservation is Earth Day 2012. Over the past 14 years, this massive event has mobilized over 75,000 volunteers statewide. Hundreds of miles of trails have been restored; thousands of native trees and flowers planted; dozens of recycling bins installed; and tons of trash and debris removed from fragile wildlife habitats, beachfronts and estuaries. The 15th Annual event will be held Saturday, April 14th at 15-20 parks statewide. Visit CalParks.org to find out how you can do your part!
