CA State Parks Foundation: Earth Day 2012
The current perils facing California State Parks are numerous: 70 park closures in 2012, a $1.3 billion backlog in overdue maintenance projects, elimination of education programs for kids, reduced staffing and more. The California State Parks Foundation is working harder than ever to create programs and policy that will preserve parklands for future generations.
One such example of preservation is Earth Day 2012. Over the past 14 years, this massive event has mobilized over 75,000 volunteers statewide. Hundreds of miles of trails have been restored; thousands of native trees and flowers planted; dozens of recycling bins installed; and tons of trash and debris removed from fragile wildlife habitats, beachfronts and estuaries. The 15th Annual event will be held Saturday, April 14th at 15-20 parks statewide. Visit CalParks.org to find out how you can do your part!
