Comedian Steve Trevino has a bone to pick with Hollywood.

A Mexican-American comic who has been working in entertainment for the past two decades, Steve has had enough with the stereotypical depictions of Latin Americans onstage and onscreen.

His latest Netflix special Relatable focuses on finding the funny within the difficulties of marriage, being a new dad, and family life. But he refuses to be reduced to a caricature and pander to what most have come to expect of Latin Americans in comedy. While Steve has been able to amass a huge following on social media, with tens of millions of views, he is now opening up about the fact that Hollywood refuses to cast him as anything other than a janitor, or a gardener.

Steve breaks down the implicit biases within industry casting rooms and shares some horror stories about major roles he had to turn down. The comedian manages to do all of this in a funny and enlightening way, opening my eyes to some issues I haven’t considered before despite being Latin American myself.

This is a must listen for anyone interested in a behind-the-scenes look into some of Hollywood’s shameful casting practices and their effects.

Steve will be performing at Cobb’s Comedy Club August 24 and 25 at 7:30 pm. Click here for tickets and more info.
