On the morning of August 10, a group of more than 150 local and national artists signed an open letter in the centerfold of Seattle Times urging Seattle residents to take action and help save the Showbox Theater.

In the letter, they note Onni Group’s plan to tear down the building in order to build a 44-story luxury residential tower. But it isn’t going down without a fight. The Showbox played a critical role in launching the careers of artists like Pearl Jam, Death Cab for Cutie, Sleater-Kinney, Run the Jewels, and more.

The artists are currently working with public development authority Historic Seattle and encouraging people to contact Seattle’s City Council and Mayor Jenny Durkan.

The letter concludes,“Together, we can save this iconic place, which continues to have an indelible impact on our city and artists from here and around the country,” and was co-signed by Neko Case, the xx, Dave Grohl, Fleet Foxes, and more. Check out the full statement below.

Update: Seattle City Council votes.
