Following the countrywide March For Our Lives rallies in spring, Parkland students have kept up the momentum with the Road to Change summer tour, making stops around the country to get young people educated, registered, and motivated to vote.

But when sibling pop trio AJR wrote their single “Burn the House Down,” a buoyant track “observing this strange thing happening in our generation where regular people have so much power,” they had no idea it would become the theme song for March For Our Lives and the summer tour. It was the movement’s organizers who saw the connection between the cause and the song’s message call to action, and they then reached out to the band asking to use the track for the Road to Change summer tour announcement video.

In an interview with RollingStone, AJR’s Adam, Jack and Ryan Met say that this song was written in response to social media’s increasing ability to give regular people a voice to make change, especially through Twitter. It was the first song the brothers released since their 2017 album The Click. It was also selected by Spotify and Apple Music as a Song of the Summer 2018.

March For Our Lives: Road to Change comes to Oakland July 22. Watch the video below and text “Change” to 97779 if you want to get more involved.
