Ellen DeGeneres is coming back to the Bay!
The talk show host, and arguably the most popular comic who no longer performs stand-up, is set to return to the stage for her first show in 15 years. Ellen announced early Thursday that she will embark on a quick eight-show run that includes three sets at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco from August 15-17. She will also stop in Seattle and San Diego.

According to Deadline, Ellen will tape a special for Netflix at the Seattle venues. The practice of a limited show run right before a Netflix special is not unprecedented. Fellow comedic heavyweight Dave Chappelle made it a point to test out material around the Bay Area at the Punchline Comedy Club and other local venues before taping his latest specials for Netflix “The Bird Revelation” and “Equanimity.”

Ellen’s stand-up hiatus coincided with her landing her daytime talk show back in 2003, but it was the stage where she honed her comedic skills that has made her one of America’s most beloved public figures. She’s also no stranger to the San Francisco comedy scene: Ellen took 2nd place in the San Francisco International Comedy Competition back in 1985 – incredibly, the year after Showtime called her “the funniest woman in America.”

Pre-sale tickets go on sale June 19, with general sales opening up on June 22.
