On this week’s ELI5, Alicia and I had the honor of having San Francisco Mayor Mark Farrell in-studio to explain to us what a typical day in the life of the mayor is like. As we learned very quickly, there is no typical day for a mayor. From walking the streets with students calling for stricter gun regulations to administrative duties in the office, the mayor’s duties can change not just day-to-day but minute-to-minute.

Listen in below as Mayor Farrell candidly breaks down what it’s like to be mayor and explains why he decided not to run in the upcoming mayoral election in June.

Explain Like I’m Five is presented by the Commonwealth Club, the nation’s oldest and largest public affairs forum, intent on finding truth and turning it loose in the world.
