No Name’s Record Room: The Mundaze

“I’m the newbie…I’ve been with the band for 10 years,” jokes The Mundaze congo-player Tino Casillas. Bassist TJ Tyler and lead vocalist Shannon Bradley have been playing together since high school, as have Tino and drummer Justin Anderson. Together with guitarist Chad Dorado, The Mundaze are a groove, funk, neo-soul band out of Stockton who whose music bridges the retro with modern times.

TJ is “comforted by those major minor sevens” so ubiquitous in Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and Bill Wither’s soul, finding their feeling and lyrics shockingly as relevant (and moving) today as they were in the 70s. “We’ve been playing (“Inner City Blues”) for a long time, and we’ll literally get choked up singing…something happens in the world (today) and it’s like, nothing changes.

Vascillating between original composition and Stevie Wonder, Simon & Garfunkel, Michael Jackson, and Marvin Gaye references and covers, The Mundaze play a four-song set inside No Name’s Record Room.
