New Release Roundup: Alicia discovers she should probably be watching Lady Dynamite

This week’s New Release Roundup a review of movies on DVD that Alicia is in love with and a Netflix series that I only half-watched but still recommend (?).

Alicia kicks it off with a review of The War for the Planet of the Apes, which was one of the biggest blockbusters of 2017, so chances are you probably already saw it. This is one of those rare releases nowadays that people will snag on Blu-Ray or DVD, especially considering it’s the last in the Planet of the Apes trilogy.

Next Alicia reviews The Beguiled, a drama starring Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell, and Kirsten Dunst (spoiler: she loved it and highly recommends it for reasons that you may not expect.)

Lastly, I preview the second season of Lady Dynamite, a Netflix original starring comedian Maria Bamford. Full disclosure, I stopped watching the first season of this halfway through; not because it wasn’t good, it’s great, but because I’m just a bum when it comes to following through with episodic TV. The second season looks amazing though, as Maria continues her hilarious and honest quest of detailing her real-life struggles of navigating the Hollywood labyrinth while dealing with a bevy mental illness afflictions.
