Green Day and Rancid frontmen form punk supergroup

Calling all pop punk fans! This is sure to make your nostalgic heart weep with joy.

Two punk legends, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day and Tim Armstrong of Rancid, have come together to form the punk rock supergroup we never knew we needed. And guess what the new band is called? That’s right— Armstrongs.

No, the two Armstrong frontmen are not related by blood, but they’re both part of the royal family of pop punk, so that’s close enough!

We can tell these two want to keep this new project close to home, since they’ve also recruited Billie Joe’s son Joey (the current drummer for SWMRS) and Tim’s nephew Rey.

They’ve already released the band’s first single, called “If There Was Ever A Time,” calling for unity among citizens.

The proceeds from this single will benefit 924 Gilman, the punk venue in Berkeley that was an early performance spot for both Green Day and Rancid. 924 Gilman was also the location for Green Day’s latest music video for “Revolution Radio.” The video featured old videotapes from an early Green Day performance at the all-ages venue.

Glad to see that Green Day and Rancid haven’t strayed too far from their Bay Area roots!
