No Name’s Record Room: Ellisa Sun

Ellisa Sun is a force of nature. The Los Angeles native plays original folk and neo-soul music with jazz sensibilities that make her live performances especially exciting. As an audience, you’re not quite sure where the riff will take her, and that level of improvisation keeps shows fresh and interesting.

This is all especially cool coming from someone who hasn’t been at it for very long. Although Ellisa has been playing guitar for over a decade, the singer-songwriter didn’t pick up a pen until about 5 years ago. Now, she has a debut album Moon & Sun showcasing 8 original tracks, two of which she played inside No Name’s Record Room – “Old Fame” and “Home Stretch.” Her musical upbringing consisted of a steady diet of Lauryn Hill, Joni Mitchell, and James Taylor. As a result, her music is a healthy blend of those influences and more (Ellisa comes from a family of entertainers – it’s clearly in her genes).

You can catch her at Brick & Mortar Music Hall with Of Sea & Stone and Exhausted Pipes July 17.

Stay connected with Ellisa on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Spotify.
