Places You Should Know: Pagan Idol Tiki Bar in San Francisco

Pagan Idol/Via Instagram

One foot inside Pagan Idol tiki bar, and you know you’re about to experience something truly unique. Walk through the entrance room called the “Captain’s Quarters,” created to feel like the inside hull of a ship, complete with “porthole views” of underwater imagery beneath “ornate lighting fixtures by artist Ivan Mora, depicting the dreaded kraken (giant squid).” After descending steps of piled up skulls, patrons will find themselves inside a thatched tiki hut bar complete with a smoking volcano underneath a twinkling “night sky” ceiling.

Doug shares the inspiration behind the bar’s fun concept:

We were looking at the teardown of the trade and embargo on Cuba. (More unique rums from the Carribean were) going to become much more available. And we wanted to look at how we could utilize a space that was available to us to really make a new experience, something that would be unique to San Francisco.

Doug has also recently used the space to fundraise for cancer research, a cause close to his heart. Visit ByeCancer.org to learn how you can get involved or donate. You can also stop by Pagan Idol and order the daiquiri – proceeds for the drink will go directly to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Connect at their website, on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter.
