Phoenix Drops Music Video for “J-Boy”

Phoenix makes a comeback with their sophisticated dream pop single “J- Boy” (Just Because of You) off their sixth album Ti Amo. The video showcases the French rockers as musical guests on a fake Italian music reality show titled Ti Amo Speciale. The two hosts list the band’s inspiration from The Beatles, The Jacksons, Kraftwerk, to Prince while Phoenix plays in front of an audience under a neon laser light show. “J-Boy” calls back to the sound of 80s new wave bands ABC and Pet Shop Boys.

Ti Amo is Phoenix’s follow-up to their 2013 Bankrupt! featuring songs “Entertainment” and “Trying To Be Cool“. The band shared in a press release that their newest album focuses on themes of:

Pure emotions: love, desire, lust, and innocence. It’s also a record about our European, Latin roots, a fantasized version of Italy: a lost paradise made of eternal Roman summers, jukeboxes on the beach, Monica Vitti and Marcello Mastroianni, fearless desire and antique marble statues.

Phoenix is currently traveling for their Ti Amo Tour, bringing along the merchandise vending machine from the music video. Phoenix performed “J-Boy” on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Ti Amo will be released on June 9th.
