Actress Kristen Stewart and Scottish band Chvrches team up to release a video campaigning in support of Planned Parenthood. Stewart directs the video with unfocused close-up shots of leading lady Lauren Mayberry’s eyes and hands. According to Songfacts, Stewart comments on her directing, “I ended up with a pretty simple but definitive narrative arc that highlights the cause in a sweet but quiet and confronting way.”
Originally, “Down Side Of Me” was recorded on Chvrches second album Every Open Eye (2015). Mayberry speaks about working on the project:
‘Down Side Of Me’ was not written specifically for this project but I really like how the lyrics can be interpreted in a way that supports the goal of the project as a whole. We should all be able to have faith that our governments are working in our best interests – and if they aren’t then, they should be challenged and held to account. ‘I’ll believe that you’re all that you said you would be.’
“Down Side Of Me” will be featured on 7-inches for Planned Parenthood, which raises funds for the reproductive health organization. The box set will include other performers: Björk, Sleater-Kinney, Mary J Blige, Bon Iver, St. Vincent, Foo Fighters, and many more. Also, comedians Jenny Slate, Sarah Silverman, Margaret Cho are featured. The compilation will be released this fall.
