The xx Releases Music Video for New Single

The xx fans are loving the trio’s second single “Say Something Loving” off their third album I See You. Yesterday, the band released a teaser about the single.

Like the song itself, the video is a modern 80s pop style homage. Members Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim, and Jamie Smith wear black and play in front of a simple blue backdrop, juxaposed with black and white shots of young love and imagery of London’s industrial landscapes. The xx told Pitchfork about the locations:

We wanted to celebrate our hometown and revisit some of the places that reminds us of our friendship when we were growing up.

The xx released I See You with their first single “On Holdin January. It hit #3 on the UK’s Indie Chart, and they played it on Saturday Night Live in November. Singer and guitarist Croft explained to Rolling Stone:

On this album, we all thought, ‘Let’s stop worrying. Let’s just make music.’ There’s this liberating feeling of playing what sounds good, what we like.

Already I See You has been widely well received, charting at #2 on Billboard 200 (their second album Coexist landed at #5). The British indie pop band will play 3 shows April 15th-17th in San Francisco at the Bill Graham Auditorium Civic Center.
